PyForge

Real Python.
Performed by wood.

Type code below and a carved wooden automaton does exactly what you wrote — it speaks your output line by line, reels when you flood it, and cracks when it jams. No account, no install, no server: the interpreter is running in this page.

Play it now — lesson 1

Five lessons, no install and no account. The browser is running real Python. Each lesson starts with the answer nearly filled in and ends with no code at all, and you have to predict what happens before it runs.

The playground below is free play: examples you can edit, with the automaton on stage.

The playground

This is not a mock. Type Python, press Run, and the automaton performs the trace. Break it on purpose — a jam costs you nothing.

    The previous carver

Someone used this workshop before you. They left the lamp warm, a row of half-finished automata, and seven fragments scratched into the underside of the bench. The machine will not tell you what they mean. It only gives them up, one at a time, when you make it do something real.

Run a working program and a fragment surfaces. You cannot rush it — the bench only gives one per new piece of work.

    Fragments 0 / 7 open loops

      Built for what actually sticks

Three choices taken from the learning evidence rather than from the vibe.

      Predict before you run

In the game the Run button stays locked until you commit to what will happen. Being wrong is the point — that is when a mental model gets rewritten.

      Help fades, truth doesn't

Five rungs from near-answer to a bare complaint. After the struggle an explicit explanation lands — never silence, never a red X.

      Scars, not badges

An error cracks the automaton; only fixing it earns a permanent gold seam. Progress is the workshop you have made, not a number that resets.

      Run the full game locally

One folder, no installer. Python 3.11+ is the only requirement. The playground above runs unaltered Python; the full game adds real subprocess execution, the five-rung ladder, kintsugi scars, spaced review and sound.
